Kion v3.14: Enabling Cloud+ FinOps, re-imagined forecasting, and operational visibility

Reduce complexity, eliminate chaos, and minimize manual work in new ways and beyond just public cloud with Kion’s FinOps+ inspired release.

Kion v3.14 brings meaningful upgrades across FinOps and CloudOps. This release introduces Custom Accounts for Cloud+ (FinOps beyond public cloud), a revamped Forecasting engine with an upgraded experience within spend reports, and CloudPulse, a new operational dashboard for CloudFormation deployment monitoring. We’ve also added Service Categories in spend reports to align with the the FOCUS specification and give executives and practitioners a macro view of costs across providers.

What’s new

Custom Accounts

Bring Your Own Data. With Custom Accounts, you can ingest and normalize non‑CSP billing data, meaning you can bring in SaaS spend, on‑prem data center cost, or any internal data relevant to your organization alongside AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI. Map external datasets to Kion’s financial model, attribute spend to projects and OUs, and roll it all up in reports, dashboards, budgets, and enforcements.

Why It Matters

  • Consolidate all spend in one place for unified visibility and on-going management.
  • Showback/chargeback for total cost of ownership for teams.
  • Strategically align with Cloud+, which aligns FinOps capabilities beyond public cloud.

Forecasting 2.0

We rebuilt our forecasting engine and overall experience for our customers to plan with confidence. Create forecasts within spend reports, layer user-driven assumptions, and customize your views to meet your needs.

What’s Improved

  • New engine for better projections and accuracy.
  • User-driven inputs to customize additional growth assumptions or specify the look back period to drive projections.
  • Embedded within all spend reports to dimension and customize, while also applying to saved reports and dashboard views.

Example: Forecast the next two quarters for a product line, then model a 12% AI‑driven uptick in spend. Save the report, add it to your dashboard, and begin monitoring actuals to forecast over time.

CloudPulse

Meet CloudPulse, an operational dashboard focused on CloudFormation Templates (CFTs). CloudPulse unifies deployment visibility, template status, error messages, and recent changes to ensure your CloudOps team can spot issues and act faster.

Highlights

  • Real‑time status for cloud formation stacks.
  • Error surfacing with context (failed resources, events) to speed remediation.
  • Create filters across regions, accounts, and projects to dive into details.

Service Category in Spend Reports

Add a new dimension to your reporting with Service Categories. Analyze costs at a macro level (e.g., Compute, Storage, Networking) across providers to accelerate executive reviews and cross‑cloud comparisons.

Benefits

  • Normalize multicloud data with provider‑neutral categories.
  • Answer big‑picture questions quickly (e.g., “How is Compute trending across clouds?”).
  • Pair with labels/tags for granular drill‑downs by team, app, or business unit.
  • Aligns with the FOCUS spec and applies beyond public cloud spend.

MCP Server

While not directly part of 3.14, our MCP Client is now available and announced in mid-August. This announcement brings AI to CloudOps within Kion. To learn more about, read our MCP announcement.

Why This Release Matters

  • Cloud+ FinOps: unify public cloud, private cloud, and SaaS spend for a single source of truth.
  • Better plans, fewer surprises: upgraded forecasting = tighter budget governance and future planning of spend.
  • Operate with confidence: CloudPulse turns CFT noise into clear signals and faster fixes.
  • Exec‑friendly reporting: FOCUS‑aligned Service Categories make cross‑cloud conversations simple.
